One of Humberside Airports’ most popular new destinations is Alicante- famous for its vibrant, party resort of Benidorm, but my favourite place on this coast is an even shorter transfer than Benidorm and that’s Alicante City itself!
It is the City that has everything you could wish for, a beautiful sandy beach, clear waters, a marina, blues bars, reggae clubs, five star restaurants, art galleries, an old town to soak up the atmosphere and a beautiful ancient castle to explore, which often has great exhibitions, last years was ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’!
It has beautiful old squares one of them containing an amazing Banyan Garden where you can sit in the cutest old outdoor coffee shop totally umberalled by these beautiful old palms which were gifted to Spain by an Asian King yonks ago!
Mentioning the coffee, there is a coffee house and eatery to suit everyone from trendy cafes to real old fashioned darkened tapas bars full of ancient locals as old as the aforementioned Banyan palms.
There is a stunning old square housing the Town Hall with years old battered walls and the biggest old wooden doors evoking thoughts of the Moors and Christians, with a very smart four star hotel in one corner if you felt like a stay to soak up the culture.
Alicante City has everything including small friendly lodges to grand four star luxury accommodations and I love it, so don’t just think of Alicante as Benidorm there’s some real Spanish culture out there with the shortest of hops from the airport.
My name is Jo and I have worked at Humberside Airport now for twelve years , if you would like more information or advice on our Alicante departure I can help you plan your next trip, and ps….. I know the bus route up to the castle to save you an exhausting climb!!!
